Ian Loves Sweet Potatos

Ian is four and a half months old, and is learning to enjoy “real” food.  We tried carrots last week.  I was thrilled that he willingly ate them, and didn’t refuse to eat.  But then this week, we switched to sweet potatos and he acted like he was famished!

While I was trying to navigate the spoon to Ian’s mouth, he would reach out, wrap both of his fists around my hand and pull the spoon strait to his mouth.  I couldn’t believe how much he wanted the food in his mouth.  If I didn’t have another spoonfull ready quickly enough, this is the face I got, seconds before he would shove his bib in his mouth and start sucking the sweet potato off of it.  Any suggestions on how to discourage that habbit?  It gets a bit hard to get the spoon inside his mouth when there’s a bib and/or fists already there.

In addition to being a big eater, Ian desperately wants to start talking.  He garbles and cooes constantly now.  Occasionally he even throws in a few shrieks when he feels that the grown ups in his world are not paying proper attention to his every distorted word.  In between shrieks and babbling, Ian’s developed a taste for feet.  If he starts to fuss a bit, chances are he wants to be set down so that he can lift his chubby thighs into the air to get his toes into his mouth.

I can’t believe that my sweet, cuddly precious little boy is only 2 weeks shy of being 5 months old!
